Week 1

Hi everyone,

Welcome to week 1 of the ANZ 23 Mobile Things course! The thing we are focusing on this week is Twitter – yay!

What’s happening this week…

Kate has written the introduction post; so please discover, explore and think about the implications of Twitter this week by interacting with the learning materials on the ANZ 23 Mobile Things blog and the 23 Mobile Things blog.

Kate and I am having a Google+ hangout with Jan Holmquist, Mylee Joseph and Kathryn Barwick – the 23 Mobile Things team – on Wednesday, May 8th at 8PM (NZ) which is 6PM (AEST) which we will stream live on our Youtube channel. Please do tune in at that time and be part of this conversation; tweet us your questions using #anz23mthings and we will answer them in our Q and A section at the end. Learn a bit more about the 23 Mobile Things background, plus hear some handy tips and advice on how to manage your time and learning over the span of this course.

What should I do this week?

  • Read Kate’s post about Twitter

  • Set up a Twitter account (if you haven’t got one already)

  • If you have a locked Twitter account, please check your follower requests and follow us (@anz23mthings) back so that we can see your tweets!

  • Do some of the activities under the Explore section on our post and the 23 Mobile Things post

  • Tune into our Google+ hangout on Wednesday night to learn more about the 23 Mobile Things and ask any questions you might have

  • Answer our intro survey if you haven’t done so already

  • Follow our blog in some form or another; you can sign up for RSS feeds or e-mail alerts from the links on the right side of our blog pages, follow our Twitter account or like our Facebook page

  • Have fun!

Coming up…

Thing 2 is all about taking photos with a mobile device so I’m looking forward to everyone taking a photo next week and sharing that on Flickr – more details to come…

We’re also hoping to have a Twitter chat sometime next week so we hope you can join us for that. A Twitter chat is when we are all on Twitter at the same time and we have a conversation amongst the whole group by using #anz23mthings. So include that hashtag in every tweet you do during the chat to be part of the conversation. More details to follow, but it’s going to be awesome!

As always, don’t forget to check us out online regularly so that you don’t miss out on all the interaction that is going on!

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail either myself or Kate – we’d love to hear from you.

Have a great week!

Abigail Willemse (New Professionals NZ) & Kate Freedman (ALIA NGAC)

P.S. Please also check out our handy PDF file with all the information about us. Feel free to forward this onto colleagues or others who you think might be interested in doing the course.
