Week 3

Dear everyone,

Welcome to Week 3 of ANZ 23 Mobile Things! We hope you enjoyed exploring taking photos on a mobile device in Week 2; here’s a short list of the major content from last week:

This week we are exploring e-mail on the move; this may seem a deceptively simple topic, but I’m sure we will all learn lots from this week about different email apps and maybe also discuss some strategies to manage e-mail!

What’s happening this week…

Begin with exploring Linda Moore’s fantastic introduction post to “E-mail on the go” – this provides lots of information to get you started with your exploration this week.

We’re hoping to get some discussion happening on our Facebook page this week about strategies on how to manage e-mail, and other interesting topics. Keep an eye out for the discussion starters and leave a comment with your thoughts. The discussion may also spread across to Twitter; we’re really looking forward to hearing your thoughts this week.

What should I do this week?

  • Read Linda’s post about e-mail

  • Experiment with different mail apps – some may be better than the default app on your device!

  • Try sending a photo by e-mail.

  • Think about the implications of always being available by having e-mail (particularly work e-mail) on your mobile device; how do you maintain the work/life balance?

  • Join in our discussions on Facebook and Twitter and share your strategies about how to cope with e-mail overload!

  • Let us know what you think about these weekly e-mails; are they helpful to keep you on track or are they clogging up your inbox? All feedback appreciated 🙂

Coming up…

Next week is maps and checking in; don’t know about you but I’m looking forward to exploring this one – there’s some really interesting ways to use this in the library context.

As always, don’t forget to check us out online regularly so that you don’t miss out on all the interaction that is going on!

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail either myself or Kate – we’d love to hear from you.

Have a great week!

Abigail Willemse (New Professionals NZ) & Kate Freedman (ALIA NGAC)

P.S. We are experiencing difficulty e-mailing this to a number of people on the list; particularly a few from Auckland Libraries. If your colleague is doing this course and hasn’t received this e-mail, could you please forward it onto them? Thanks!
