Week 5

Dear everyone,

Welcome to Week 5 of ANZ 23 Mobile Things! Wow – hard to believe how fast the time has gone; well done for making it this far and we hope you continue to enjoy the course!

We hope you enjoyed exploring “maps and checking in” for Week 4; here’s a short list of the major content from last week:

This week we are exploring “Photos/Maps/Apps – History Pin/WhatWasThere/SepiaTown” – I’m really excited about this topic as it juxtaposes images from the present and the past – lots of potential there for libraries and archives.

What’s happening this week…

Begin with exploring the Introduction post to Thing 5: Photos + Maps + Apps: Historypin / WhatWasThere / SepiaTown by @katreeena.

We will be having a Facebook chat a little bit later in the week about how we are going so far with the course; what we are enjoying and learning so far. So don’t forget to check out our Facebook page and let us know what you are thinking!!! Or tweet us your thoughts using #anz23mthings.

What should I do this week?

  • Read the Introduction to Thing 5.

  • Download the History Pin and/or WhatWasThere apps to your device

  • Check out the discover/explore section of the introduction post for more ideas

  • Try adding a photo or story to History Pin

  • How many photos are there for your area? If there are none (or not many), why not? Could you work with a local archive or could your library provide some photos?

  • Join in our discussions on Facebook and Twitter

Coming up…

Thing 6 next week is all about video! This should be fantastic; we are looking forward to seeing your favourite videos and any new videos you might create. Video is another amazing medium for sharing information and is a good way to mix up content from your library.

And don’t forget – week 7 is our “catch-up week” – so if you are a little behind, don’t stress! We have built in a week every 6 weeks for reflection and catch-up; I know that I need it! 🙂

As always, don’t forget to check us out online regularly so that you don’t miss out on all the interaction that is going on!

Please also check out the original 23 Mobile Things online as well; we are remixing their content for this group and really enjoy collaborating with them!

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail either myself or Kate – we’d love to hear from you.

Have a great week!

Abigail Willemse (New Professionals NZ) & Kate Freedman (ALIA NGAC)
