FAQ

In no particular order…

Is there a cost to this course?

No! It is a free, open-source course developed by Jan Holmquist and available for anyone to do.

I don’t live in Australia or New Zealand; can I still join your group?

Sure! We’d love to have you on board with us. The optional online chats/webinars/ activities will be scheduled according to the best time in New Zealand and Australia which may not work for you (depending on which time zone you are in), but if it works out, we’d love to have you join us for those as well.

I can’t see the sign-up post, where is it?

The post is here, we would love you to join us so sign up.  We have no cut-off date.

I already know all about these 23 Mobile Things; is there any point in me joining this group?

That’s amazing and we’d love to have you on board! There is definitely a capacity for ‘mentor’ type figures to help inspire and guide the people who are newer to these mobile technologies. We’d love to hear your perspectives and tips, so feel free to join and share with us. Also check out: “I would like to help out/volunteer/be a mentor. How do I do that?” Q and A below.

That being said; we are of the mindset that there is always something new to learn; even if you think you know everything about these 23 things, you might discover new software, opportunities, or ways of using these tools.

I already know some of these things; can I pick and choose which things I would like to do?

That is completely fine if you would like to dip in and out and choose which ones you would like to complete. As mentioned above, there is always something new to learn, but some of the Things you may be more familiar with so you don’t have to spend so much time on them.

I would like to help out/volunteer/be a mentor.  How do I do that?

We welcome all help that is offered.  Keep an eye out in Week 0 as to how you can help us write introductory blog posts and wrap-up Storify posts.  If you would like to help in another capacity just contact Abigail or Kate and let us know how you would like to help out.

We will also be looking at recruiting mentors for people to contact if they need help and advice on a thing.  If you would like to volunteer as a mentor, sign up to the program and then have a look at our Mentor page and fill out the form.

Are the online chats/sessions compulsory?

No, they are not. They are extra interaction opportunities and we would love to have you join us for them. The aim is to have one every week; we anticipate that not everyone will be able to make one every week, so it’s fine to be selective about what you would like to attend.

What sort of mobile device do I need to have?

The possibilities are limitless; you might be using a tablet, iPad, smart phone, etc… The aim is to explore mobile technologies so any device you have is absolutely fine to use. If you are borrowing one from work (or using one somewhere else), you could also explore many of these tools on your PC or desktop computer.

This is fantastic, any hints on how I can spread the word to my colleagues at work?

Sure, we have even created this handy PDF that you can download and email around the office.  Spread the news- signup’s never close!
