#Anz23mthings Hangout 2 archived video

26 Jun

Hi everyone,

thank you to those who tuned in for the live-stream of our second hangout with the 23 Mobile Things crew. We had a great chat and covered Historypin (and the pub that kept walking away), Google hangouts versus Skype (complete with technical problems), how to interact with social media when it is not encouraged at work (and how to convince managers that it is worth it!), and concluded with discussing some new apps and technology we have discovered.

You can watch our archived chat below – apologies in advance for the poor quality of my web-cam. Google hangouts app currently won’t let you join an app on air, so I had to use my desktop (and correspondingly cheap web cam). Jan did say you could think of it as a “gangster filter” though which makes it cooler!

Hope you enjoy the chat; let us know your thoughts either in comments on the video, this blog post, Twitter, anywhere really!

Hi Abigail, It was a great Hangout last night, thank you. I am off to blog about the end of Google Reader today (with the options) to make our students aware! You get a completely different feel using a hangout, as opposed to Twitter, or Blogging don’t you? You did look like a faded photo booth or instagram effect! I am afraid I missed the first couple of minutes setting up last night so I missed the introductions, who was the behind the image of the River Seine in Paris? Have a great day, Corinne

      Hi Corinne,

Glad that you enjoyed it 🙂 And fantastic to hear that you are talking about the options for your students as well! It is a completely different experience; kind of like hanging out at the cool coffee shop or having a ‘private’ conversation with a group of people knowing that other people are watching it live 🙂 It was fun though and I really enjoyed the topics we talked about last night.

That would be Kathryn Barwick; she and Mylee Joseph (who was in the lower right hand corner of the hangout), are colleagues at the State Library of NSW. You can find out more about the 23 Things team on this page here – http://23mobilethings.net/wpress/the-team/

Thank you for watching live and I’m glad you found it useful. Have fun experimenting with your own hangout/Skype this week too 🙂

      Abby

Just viewed the archived hangout on historypin. Thanks a lot and it’s useful to see the connectivity technology too, even if not perfect!
